Ok so I’m not really The Academy or Tony or even Golden Globe but I do want to give awards in excellence to outstandingly fashionable characters through out the years.  I love movies and an drawn to the unique characters and clothes they wear.  Here are some of my favorites, in no particular order…

#1

Richard Gere as Julian in American Gigolo

The Armani men’s blazer , now without the  padding and lining of traditional  jackets was worn by Richard Gere in this 1980 movie, putting Giorgio Armani menswear on the map.

Mary Stuart Masterson as Watts in John Hughes’ Film Some Kind of Wonderful

Rolled up jeans, leather jacket, tee shirt and men’s vest, fingerless motorcycle gloves and drumsticks= Watts androgynous uniform in the film. She plays the loyal side-kick, always defending her sexuality and out shined by Amanda Jones (Lea Thompson) that everyone forgets about including the main character. Until he realizes… He only love the idea of Amanda Jones, he really loves her!!!! Altogether a great 80s teen movie and made me want a pair of those gloves so  bad at age15… ok I wont lie. I still do!

#3

Alicia Sliverstone as Cher Horowitz in Clueless

I remember renting the movie in 7th grade with friends and being so jealous. She had a digital closet?! That picked her outfits?! She could coordinate her ass off. She’s like the West Coast version of Blair Wahldorf from Gossip Girl. Dione was secretly my favorite though!

#4

Kate Hudson as Penny Lane in Almost Famous

Queen of the “Band-aids” Penny’s free spirit stole the heart of a young writer and lead singing rock stars. Like the flower children of her generation all she needed was love. Her wardrobe reflected just that. Organic fabrics, suade, cotton and wild tousled hair.

#5

Judy Garland as Dorothy Gail in The Wizard of Oz

Dorothy was a simple farm girl just trying to find her place but as soon as she went to Oz she got jazzy with these sparkly pumps. I love them and really want some of my own. Now if only clicking my heels could get me home…

#6

*Image fromNYTimes.com

Audrey Hepburn as Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s

Come on… Like I wasn’t gonna put her in this list?! Always chic in after 5 attire all day. She made being a professional girlfriend seem like so much fun…

#7

Apollonia Kotero as Apollonia in Purple Rain

As Prince’s girlfriend… (yeah I know… I dont get it either) she trecks around the city in a cape and not much else. It take a bad bitch to wear lingere and a cape as regualar attire. A bad bitch or a prostitute.. maybe thats where “Darling Nikki” came from?!

It hasn’t been since Jackie O that we have seen a First Lady that really epitomized style.  She set a standard that no Lady has met until 2008 when Barak Obama came to office and his wife Michelle took the reigns. Besides being a very smart and sucessful woman in her own right she is a mother and right hand woman to the most honored man in American. She does all this while looking AMAZING! So I tip my hat to you Mrs. Obama. We love you!

One of the scariest movies I have ever seen is Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds.  The scenes where the attacked where frightening to me at the tender age of 13, so I find some sick pleasure in the use of feathers in designers collections this fall.  Whether used sparsely or covering a dress feathers add a touch of drama to dresses and skirts.

Jenni Kayne Autumn/Winter 2009 Ready-To-Wear

Every generation has their “IT” girls. Women we look to, want to emulate, find fabulous. I have been seeing these women and something draws me to them, maybe it’s their style or maybe I’m just secretly a lesbian… IDK either way. My boyfriend probably wouldn’t mind…

Taylor Mosmen

Everyone’s favorite little sister on Gossip Girl is all grown up but on and off screen. I love her edgy look. Reminds me of Courtney Love but less coked out and Gwen when she was in No Doubt but clearly more modern.  Wheter you watch the show or not Taylor is makeing herself known on the fashion scene and people are noticing.

Jameela Jamil

Jameela, the essence of eclectic, mixes and matches print fabrics, textures and colors to create combinations that no one else could pull off. I love it! WHOWHATWEAR even dedicated September to her!

For Christians the center of the earth is The Vatican, for Muslims… Mecca

For me…

If the chic black and white walls contrasting with the colors of the various perfume bottles, shadow palettes, and lipsticks don’t turn you on then maybe the complete vastness of the store will. Every color you could ever want is available, every perfume or cologne, every type of make up  and/or brush or beauty product. It’s Heaven for a girl like me.

I am a member of the church of Sephora and I am a tru believer!

They may be a bit trashy but something about last season’s above the knee boots are driving me wild.  They  make legs look like they go for days and add an instant chic-ness to mini dresses. Pair them with patterned tights and a long sweater and you are good to go stomp the runway, or at least the streets of Ney York, LA, or even Milwaukee :)

Scott Schuman began photographing street fashion in September 2005.

” I didn’t want to become a ‘fashion photographer’ but I knew somehow that my loves of fashion and photography would eventually merge. I just never guessed it would be in the form of a blog.

I thought I could shoot people on the street the way designers looked at people, and get and give inspiration to lots of people in the process. My only strategy when I began The Sartorialist was to try and shoot style in a way that I knew most designers hunted for inspiration. Rarely do they look at the whole outfit as a yes or no but they try and look for the abstract concepts of color, proportion, pattern mixing or mixed genres. I’m always really happy when I meet a designer and hear that they use some of my photos for their inspiration boards. At the same time I’m also really touched when I get emails from everyday people who say they have been inspired to see themselves and others in a new and usually more accepting way.”

Began March 31, 2008 at age 12 by Tavi Gevinson of Chicago IL

(I love that she’s showing that the MidWest has style too!)

“I like to think I’m a mix of Little Lu Lu and Iggy Pop, with a bit of Snoop Doggy Dog. I spend my time wearing out crayons and watching Arthur, and taking a rest now and then to try out the latest Margiela DIY, which has most recently resulted in a tire around my neck. I take part in a rap group with a pirate, and we write about Japanese designers and furry vests. Pleasure to make your acquaintance.”
Now 13, she recently attended New York and Tokyo Fashion Week.  She was the guest of honor at Comme des Garcons’ holiday party in November in Tokyo and has written a piece about her take on Fashion Week Sum/Spr 2010 for Harper’s Bazaar.
All at 13… WTF… I’m jealous!

Started in April 2007 by mother and daughter Judy and Jane Aldridge (15 at the time)

“In our blog we plan to include anything and everything to do with shoes, meaning present trends, future trends, ideas on how to wear them, critiques, designers we love-and some we don’t. We recognize that you cannot neglect the other important aspects of the fashion world, and plan to share our ideas about jeans, accessories, bags, and anything else that pops in our minds. In the process we hope to meet other fashion devotees.”

Now a solo project, Jane has been featured in TeenVOGUE and has created two footwear collections for Urban Outfitters.
